INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS

Pioneer Dental Journal is the official publication of Pioneer Dental College & Hospital. The Pioneer Dental Journal publishes original research papers, case reports and review articles related to all branches of dental/medical health sciences. Article(s) published or submitted for publication elsewhere will not be considered for publication in Pioneer Dental Journal. The journal is published biannually in January and July of each year.

A cover letter should be accompanied with the manuscript. Manuscript should be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief, Pioneer Dental Journal, Pioneer Dental College. Ka-40/1, Lichubagan, Joar Sahara, Baridhara, Dhaka-1229.

Manuscript style:

Manuscript should be written in English and two copies must be submitted with two sets of illustrations. One original and three sets of photocopies (should be of excellent quality) and one copy in compact disc (CD) processed in MS Word (2003 or later) must be submitted to the Editor.

Format:

Manuscript should be typed double-spaced on one side of the paper (A4 size- 8.5x11 inches) with one inch margin, and pages should be numbered consecutively. Each of the following sections should begin on separate pages as: title, abstract/summary and key words, text (Introduction, Materials & methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, etc. for an Original article), acknowledgement, references, individual tables and legends. Manuscript must be accompanied by a covering letter. This must include: (a) A statement that has not been published elsewhere. (b) A statement that the manuscript has been read, approved and signed by all authors. (c) Any work which has been carried out in part or fully abroad, must be accompanied by a letter from the head of the institution where the work was done stating that the work has been carried out in that institute and that there is no objection to its publication in this journal.

Organization:

The following organization is recommended.

Title page:

The title page of the manuscript should include (a) The title of the article. (b) Name of each author with highest academic degree(s) and institutional affiliation. (c) Name of the department and institute where the work was carried out and (d) Name and address of the author to whom correspondence should be addressed.

Abstract:

An abstract of the work of no longer than 250 words should be provided. Briefly state the problem or purpose, the major observations, the methods and the principal conclusions.

Introduction:

Should include the nature and purpose of the study, rationale of the study/observation, strictly pertinent references and brief review of the subject expecting data and conclusion.

Materials and methods:

Should include the selection criterion of the study population including controls (if any), the methods and the apparatus used in the research, the procedure of the study in such a detail so that other researcher can reproduce the results.

Results:

Presented in logical sequence in the text, table and illustrations, described without comment and supplemented by concise textual description of the data presented in the tables, charts and figured where it is necessary.

Discussion and conclusion:

Point out the significance of the data and the limitations. The authors comment on the result and to relate them to those of the other authors, the relevance to experimental research for clinical practice.

References:

References should follow the Vancouver format in the text. They should appear as numbers at 1 using superscription. At the end of the paper they should be listed in numerical order corresponding to the orders of citation in the text. All authors should be quoted, for papers with more than six authors the first three only should be quoted followed by et al. Abbreviations for titles of medical periodicals should confirm to those use in the latest editions of Index Medicus. The first and last page numbers for each reference must be checked against original sources for accuracy.

A. Standard journal article:

B. Format for Books:
1. Personal Author's: Eisen HEN. Immunology: An introduction to molecular and cellular principles of the immune response. 5th ed. New York: Harden and ROW, 1974:4006.
2. Chapter in a book: Ingle JI, Simon JH, Machtou P. Outcome of endodontic treatment and re-treatment. In: Ingle JI, Bakland LK, editors. Endodontics. 5th ed. Ontario: BC Decker, 2002: P. 747-765.

Acknowledgements:

Individuals, organizations or bodies may be acknowledged in the article and may include a) Name (or a list) of funding bodies, b) Name of the organization(s) and individual(s) with their consent.

Tables, Figures and Legends:

Tables should be as few as possible and should present only essential data. Each table should be typed double-spaced on a separate sheet. A brief title of each table should be supplied.

Figures:

Figures should be professionally drawn and photographed. Photograph should be on glossy papers (usually 5 x 7 inch). These should not be inserted into the text but marked on the back with the figure numbers, title of the paper and name of author. The top of the figure should be indicated. All photographs, diagrams should be referred to as figure and numbered consecutively in the text in Arabic numerical. The legends for figures should be typed on a separate sheet.

Proofs:

Two marked copies of the proofs may be sent to the principal author which should be read carefully for error(s). One corrected proof must be returned to the Editor within the next seven days. Major alteration in the text cannot be accepted.

Copy right:

No part of the materials published in this journal may be reproduced, stored in a retrival system or transmitted in any form or by any means electric, mechanical, photo-copying, recording or without any prior written permission of the publisher. Reprints of any article published in the journal will be available for the publisher.
